Rebates and Incentives

Whetstone Valley Electric offers rebates and low interest loans to members wishing to add electric heating systems, natural air or electric low temperature crop drying, and electric water heating. Rebates using an Off Peak Load Control Program are also available.
Electric Water Heater Program
The Marathon Water heater is a high quality, non-metallic unit, that offers quick recover water heating. WVEC stocks 50 and 85 gallon units that are for sale for the membership and the general public. Whetstone will pay a $5.00 per gallon rebate to its members for installing one of these units. For members to receive the rebate, the unit must have electricity supplied by Whetstone Valley Electric, and an Off-Peak Controller must be installed for a period of 5 years. Members will receive an additional $4.00 per month credit allowance for the control. The Marathon Water Heater offers not only a Lifetime Limited Warranty on the tank but also a 5 year parts warranty.

Electric Heat Rate Program:
Members may operate Electric Heating Equipment at our Electric Heat Rate. This rate will save the customer 40% on operating heating cost. Heating Systems shall be sized 10,000 watts or more and be the primary heating equipment. Members receiving the lesser rate shall pay the cost of the metering equipment. Heating Equipment may consist of the following Heating Options:
- Baseboard Radiant Heating Equipment
- Cove Radiant Heating Equipment
- Fan Force Heating Equipment
- Under Floor Electric Radiant Heating Cables
- Electric Hedonic Hot Water Boiler Heating
- Electric Furnace
- Air to Air Heat Pump
- Geothermal Ground Source Heat Pump
Rebates may be granted if electric heat is the primary heating system and is served by Whetstone Valley Electric. Utility employees must inspect heaters and equipment used must be listed for heating purpose. Members who install electric heating equipment may receive one of the following rebates:
Residential:
- $10.00 per 1000 watts Electric Resistance Ht
- $150.00 per 10,000 watts or more plus
- $200.00 for primary electric heating equipment
- $200.00 for Air to Air or Geothermal Heat Pumps that are primary heat sources
- $200.00 Bonus for EnergyStar rated Air to Air and Geothermal Heat Systems
Commercial or Farm Buildings:
- $10.00 per 1000 watts Electric Resistance Ht
- $50.00 per Ton for Heat Pump Equipment
- plus $200.00 Match for Primary Heating
- $150.00 over 10,000 watts Electric Resistance Heating
* Rebates may be subject to change. Air Heat Pumps with Gas Furnaces for back up are not the primary heating system & don't qualify for a rebate.
Off Peak Load Control Programs
Whetstone Valley Electric offers operating cost savings through several Load Control opportunities:
- Electric Water Heater Control: Customer receives $4.00 per month. Maximum control of 4 hours. Utility will pay for cost of controller. Water heaters aren’t included on cheaper rate meters.
- Central Air Conditioner Control: If a Central Air Conditioner has an Electric heat rate meter to sponsor the rate then the Air Conditioner may be operated at the electric heat rate. Load control strategy is 15 min on and 15 min. off during load control times only.
- Special Load Control: Farm equipment and industrial equipment loads must be 10,000 watts or more. Control periods are up to 16 hours long. Generators may operate during load control.
- Irrigation System Load Control: Seasonal irrigation systems may operate at a special rate. These units may be controlled up to a 16 hour period. These loads are last to be turned off and 1st to be turned on. A bypass switch is provided when the customer needs to operate the load.
* Demand charges will apply during off peak times.
Heating Equipment Loans:
5% loans are available to members for installation of electric heating equipment. Loans may be up to 70% of complete installation up to $16,000.00 with repayment due within 84 months. Call the Whetstone Valley Electric Office at 605.432.5331 or 800.568.6631 for application information.
